Hotel at the zoo, Kurfiirstendamm 25 (* 884370). The gilded foyer gives a taste of a luxury hotel in the very center of the city. Ones 159 DM. two 191-280 DM.
Artemisia hotel. Brandenburgischestr. 18 (* 878905). The first female hotel in town. Bedrooms with three beds 43 DM, ones 85-95 DM, two 120-180 DM. Rooms tend to fall apart quickly, so better make a reservation in advance.
Hotel Bogota, Schliiterstr. 45 (*8815001). Pleasant luxury at a reasonable price. Ones 50-80 DM. two 88-140 DM.
Hotel Charlot. Giesebrechtstrasse. 17 (* 3234051). Nicely restored, efficiently run hotel near Adenauerplatz. Low prices for this comfort: ones 50-80 DM. two 85-150 DM.
Hotel Comet. Kurfiirstendamm 175 (• 8827021 or 8827022). Spacious rooms on the third floor, but from Kudamm comes the noise. Ones 55-95 DM, two 95-155 DM.
Hotel Spring at the Zoo. Kurfiirstendamm 17 (• 8818083). In the center. Modern and spacious. but little else. Ones 65-105 DM. two 100-165 DM.
Hotel Heidelberg. Knesebeckstr. 15 (•310103). Centrally located hotel in an area full of bars and in a street known for its bookstores. Ones 100 DM. two 135 DM.
Hotel Medenwaldt. Kurfiirstendamm 225 (• 8817034). Cramped rooms above the Filmpalast in the center. Ones 50-60 DM, two 85-120 DM.
Hotel Meineke. Meineke Str.. 10 (• 8828111). Old-fashioned, classic Berlin hotel with a pleasant atmosphere, about a minute walk from Kudamm. Ones 105-129 DM, two 160 DM.
Hotel Schweizerhof Berlin. Budapesterstr. 21-31 (•26960). Perfect food, service and architecture, and the prices are also good - ones 195-370 DM, 245-430 DM.
Hotel pension AArona. Bleibtreustr. 32 (• 8816274 or 8811818). 0 a few minutes south of Kudamm, with an unremarkable pseudo-gothic facade in dark orange. Ones 50-65, two 70-95 DM. Hotelpension Adria. Knesebeckstr. 74 (*8816550). Convenient location, between Savignyplatz and Kudamm. Ones 55-65 DM, two 85-95 DM. Alster hotel pension. Eisenacherstr. 10 (•246952). Location on a quiet side street close to Winterfeldtplatz and its great nightlife. Ones 50 DM. two 86 DM.
Hotelpension Astrid. Bleibtreustr. 20 (• 8815959 or 8818686). Quite gloomy rooms in a nice old apartment house close to Kudamm. Ones 60-84 DM. two 86-114 DM.
Hotelpension Austria. Rankestr. 26 (*2136018 or 2136019). Straight, clean and fresh. A few meters from the cheaper Higa (look up); redundant brands pay for extensive refurbishment. Ones 60-70 DM, two 95-120 DM.
Hotel pension Haus Trinitatis, Imchenallee 62 (• 3654262). A long way west of the city, close to lake Havel, it is worth considering this possibility if you have your own transport. Hearty meals, lovely rooms and lake view. Ones 50-60 DM. two 90-100 DM.
Hotelpension Imperator. Meinekestr. 5 (• 8814181 or 8825185). Worth the money, an intimate and centrally located hotel located on one of the most exclusive hotels, but the nice streets of Berlin. Ones 60-85 DM. two 85-100 DM; without breakfast. Hotelpension Springmann, Bleibtreustr. 31 (• 8823091). Rooms crowded with all kinds of devices to make life easier, but comfortable nonetheless. Ones 80 DM, two 120 DM; advance booking indicated.
Pension at Viktoria-Luise-Platz. Victoria-Lui-se-Platz 1a. (•2114095). A peaceful oasis in the older part of town, with interesting bars around. Ones 52 DM, two 74 DM.
Pension Florian. Giesebrechtstrasse. 11 (•8835062). The rooms in this one-story hotel are a bit damp, but it is one of the most charming in Berlin, with a cozy common room equipped with soft sofas and covered with oil paintings. Ones 60 DM and deuce 80 DM - it's worth it.
Camping
None of Berlin's three campsites are located near the center; getting there takes time and effort, and unlike other European cities, none is specifically aimed at young people. However, the prices are not high (everywhere 5 DM for a plus tent 6 DM per person), well managed and, with one exception, open all year round. If you are planning a longer stay and want to save on accommodation costs, remember, that an apartment rented through the Mitmhnzentrale may not cost much more than a campsite.
Camping Dreilinden. Albrecht's tar stove (• 805-1201). From the U-Bahn station. Oskar Helene Heim take the bus # 18 towards Kohlhasenbriick. Open from 11V to 30IX. Near the city border in the south-west. 2.5 kilometer from the nearest bus stop, so only for motorists. Free showers and a small restaurant.
Camping Haselhorst. Pulvermiihlenweg (• 334-5955). Bus #10 towards Haselhorst. Easiest accessible from the campsites, but the least picturesque. A few minutes' walk from Lake Havel. not far from Spandau Citadel. Restaurant, bar, showers (0.50 DM) and a small shop. Maximum duration of stay 4 weeks.
Camping Kladow. Krampnitzer way 111-117 (• 365-2797). Bus #34 towards Gatow or #35 towards Kladow. then change at Ritterfeld Damm to # 35E. Nice campsite, best equipped of all three campsites. including the free nursery, at least, restaurant, shop and shower(0.50 DM). Maximum duration of stay 6 weeks.
