Berlin – Kopenick

Berlin – Kopenick

Kopenick is one of the nicer suburbs of East Berlin, situated on both sides of the Spree in the south-eastern part of the city, with good S-Bahn access from Alexanderplatz station (change to Ostkreuz). The neighborhood is quite sleepy, if you want to get away from the dirt in the center, then direct your steps right here. When it comes to sightseeing, the best is the Kunstgewerbemuseum Museum of Craftsmanship (Wed-Sat. 9.00-17.00, nd. 10.00-18.00) in Kopenick Castle (trams #84 i #86 or a bus #27 from the Kopenick S-Bahn station). This museum of applied arts includes porcelain, glass, fabrics, the skin, jewelry and tin products, iron, gold and silver from the Middle Ages to the present day. In the treasury you can find an abundance of gold and silver valuables, the most beautiful of which is Empress Gisela's gold jewelry (Gisela jewelry). The 17th-century silver Berliner-Silberbuffett tableware made for the Duke of Brandenburg is also impressive, who was to become King of Prussia in the future – Frederick I. There are also disappointingly small collections of items made in the Jugendstil style and a collection of GDR applied arts.

Boats can be rented near the Dammbrucke bridge near the town hall, and from Luisenhain you can sail on a White Fleet ship (White fleet) to the nearby Grosser Miiggelsee lake and the surrounding gently rolling Miiggelbergen hills. Go to the cafe on the Miiggelturm watchtower, from where you can see the lake and the surrounding forests.
